Patient Testimonials
So Iv'e had GW's for about 1.5 years at this point. Like the TS, I tried everything to get rid of them but nothing seemed to work (freezing, podofilox, Vinegar, Duct tape, Aldara, improving my diet and immune system, etc.). I had just about given up and was using TCA to just keep them at bay (TCA could never get rid of them but kept them from getting bigger). I was pretty damn depressed and thought I would have these forever. Then I stumbled across this post and got my hopes up again. I frantically tried searching for doctors that did this treatment. It does seem to be a very rare treatment as no doctor in my area did it and only a few had heard about it. I live on the east coast of Florida in a smaller town though, but eventually after searching the web found that the University of South Florida in Tampa did it.
So I made an appointment and drove two hours there. They do not use DNCB since it was a "carcinogenic" and I couldn't talk them into using that chemical, but you can also use squaric acid for the same exact treatment. The process is the same, there apply a 2% solution to your forearm and come back two weeks later to apply the .2% solution to the warts. Unfortunately, they did not send the squaric acid home with you no matter how much I begged (I couldn't afford to make a four hour round trip several days a week for it, wish they would have told me this before I made my appointment). So I couldn't do the treatment there and had to start my search again. Then I finally found a doctor in Miami which was a 6 hour round trip but worth it in my opinion to get rid of these bastards. His name is Barry Resnik and is an EXCELLENT dermatologist for anybody in Florida and sends the medication home with you. I highly recommend seeing him even if it's a long drive for you. He definitely seems to know his stuff and is a very nice and funny guy. I was talking about how long it has been since I've had sex and he laughed and said "don't worry, we're going to make sure we get you back up on that horse" lol. That's one thing I really like about him. The others doctors didn't really seem to give a shit and just wanted me in and out. He actually seems to genuinely want to help you and get rid of these things for you at all cost.
So I made the appointment after confirming they do the treatment (they also say they do it on their website, http://www.drresnik.com/squaric-acid-therapy-for-warts.html). The first appointment I couldn't get the treatment done as they don't keep it in stock and have to order it. This is kinda my fault, I should have specified I'm six hours away and had them order it before I went. So instead he used a hyfrecator to do electro surgery on them (I never had this done before). They just use a DC current to burn the warts at the surface and below the skin. He burned off all the warts and said to make an appointment after they heal but hopefully they won't come back as he usually had very good success using the hyfrecator. About 90% of them did not return but a few did end up coming back so I made another appointment. On the second appointment he had the squaric acid in stock and applied the 2% solution to my forearm and had me fill out a form for a company to send me the .2% solution in the mail. He also did the hyfrecator again but also scrapped the surface of the warts off first. He did this because he said he believed the last session wasn't able to penetrate far enough into my skin to completely kill the virus and with them scrapped off the surface the electro surgery should be more effective. The treatment itself didn't hurt at all. What did hurt was the needle he injected into each wart to numb them lol.
Now supposedly with most people you will have no visible reaction to the 2% applied on your arm but it will still create an allergic reaction. I must be the small % who do get a visible reaction, because just under two weeks later I had a red circle where he applied the squaric acid. It basically looked like I rubbed poison ivy on my arm. It's fading now and it doesn't look like it will leave any scar at all. Anyways, the warts didn't come back yet from the last electro treatment but I didn't want to take chances and applied the solution to where each wart was. I've been doing this for the past 2-3 weeks now and still have no warts. I'm not sure if the last electro session did it, or if it's the squaric acid that does it but either way I'm very happy so far!!! They aren't lying when they say apply a SMALL amount to the warts. I dabbed it generously just to make sure it would work and that was a mistake. The area's I applied it to got very red and EXTREMELY itchy. I had to stop the treatment for a week for the irritation to go down. So just apply enough to barely saturate the warts area. The squaric acid is a liquid that needs to be kept in the fridge. It will cause some redness and irritation, and will cause some skin to peel but this is normal. If you apply too much, it will start to blister and you need to stop the treatment and apply cortisone until it is healed.
So that's where I'm at now. No warts have come back yet and I hoping they never do again. Unfortunately I have some scarring in places from the previous treatments I have tried (be easy with the apple cider vinegar, that caused the biggest scar) but I would rather have some small scarring than warts. If you have any questions just let me know. Also if you find someone that does this treatment have them scrap, and then electrocute the warts first when you get the initial sensitization done. It will be just about completely healed in two weeks. It seemed to be a very good combination for me so hopefully it will work for you guys/girls too.
