What is the TCA Cream Peel?
TCA (Tri-Chloro-Acetic
Acid) is the most commonly used face-peeling agent in the world. It has
been used successfully by dermatologists for generations. The TCA Cream
Peel, actually, is a simpler and safer way of achieving the good results
that TCA can provide. The TCA Cream Peel has been extensively tested by
board certified dermatologists. By a process called chelation, the TCA Cream
Peel delivers as deep and smooth a face peel as regular TCA, but uses a
much milder concentration of TCA. Thus, there is less pain and stinging,
faster healing and smoother overall application. The TCA Cream Peel utilizes
natural clays. It does not contain any toxic, harmful or carcinogenic chemicals
and none of its components are absorbed into the system.
How does the TCA Cream Peel work?
The TCA Cream Peel
is applied in the office. Some patients may require a mild tranquilizer
at the time of the procedure. The face is first cleaned and dried. While
the clay mask is on the skin there will be a moderate stinging-burning sensation.
The clay remains on the face from three to five minutes and is then removed
with cool water. The skin, at first, will show a uniform whitish "frost"
for an hour or so. It will then have a reddish hue for several hours, followed
by a steady darkening of the surface developing over the next day or so.
There is no "scabbing". The areas begin to peel in about 2 days and peeling
is almost always complete in seven to eight days. The peeling is similar
to that of a severe suntan. Most patients will want to re-schedule important
social engagements during the week of the peel, since one's appearance can
be quite unsightly for the week of the peel.
What can I expect from my TCA Cream Peel?
A successful TCA Cream
Peel should remove any discolorations, such as photo-pigmentation from the
sun. Your skin should look clearer and have a much more even tone and texture.
The TCA Cream Peel will also help to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Your
skin should appear tighter and more youthful. Although the TCA Cream Peel,
especially with repeated local applications, may markedly decrease the appearance
of fine acne scar, it is not specially designed to treat deeper acne scarring.
It is not a "face-sanding", nor does it substitute for a "face lift"..

How
many Peels will I require?
Usually only a single application of the TCA Cream Peel is necessary to
correct cosmetic problems. Where there is extensive photo-damage or other
special problems, the doctor might recommend additional applications or
touch-ups.
What are the side effects of the TCA Cream Peel?
In extensive clinical testing, there have been no reports of scarring
or permanent hyper-pigmentation (darkening) of the skin. In very dark, Asian,
African-American, etc, skin types, there is a chance of darkening which
may last several months. Where there is even a possibility of this occurring,
your doctor will probably do a tiny "patch test" on your facial skin, before
proceeding with the Peel.
